SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME FOR INDIAN STUDENTS

The Department of Physics of the National University of Singapore (NUS) invites graduate students from Indian Universities and Indian Institutes to participate in summer internship programme SIPIS-09. During the programme, participants will be introduced to NUS research environment, interact with NUS professors and complete a project that is related to ongoing research.
SIPIS-09 is targeted at Indian graduate students (M.Sc. or M.Tech.) who will have completed their M.Sc. or M.Tech. in May 2010. More advanced students may apply as well.
All participants will be attached to the Physics Department, NUS, for a minimum if 6 weeks and a maximum of 8 weeks, in period of 8 May ~ 17 July. They will be accommodated on NUS campus and will receive a daily allowance sufficient to cover expenses in Singapore. Travel grants are available on a competitive basis.
Programme
- Discovering new technologies arising from recent cutting-edge research.
- Participants will be involved in a short project based on related ongoing research.
Application Procedures
If you wish to participate in SIPIS-09, please follow this Application Procedure:
1. Consult the departmental research web page at http://www.physics.nus.edu.sg/corporate/research/res_intro.html
and, in particular, the list of faculty members and research areas at http://www.physics.nus.edu.sg/corporate/research/researchlist.pdf
to identify a research area of your interest.
2. Applicants are encourage to contact NUS faculty members to discuss and define a potential project for your internship (2-3 paragraphs, not more than one A4 page). Owing to the availability of resources, the actual project assigned to you may be different from your proposal.
3. Ask one of your lecturers or your supervisor, if any, for a confidential letter of support to be kept in a sealed envelope.
4. Ask the Head of your home institution to give written approval of your leave should you be selected for SIPIS-09.
5. Mail your proposed project write-up, the letter of support, and the Head’s approval letter, together with the covering letter, a one-page CV in tabular form, and a copy of your transcript.
6. Make sure that your application contains full contact information: Your mailing address, your email address, your phone number.
