Selection to OCES/DGFS is a two-step process: screening to short-list candidates followed by interview of the short-listed candidates. Except for RSE discipline (code 44), there is a separate selection process for each of the other disciplines listed in Table-1. RSE is available only as an additional option to applicants for Physics and Chemistry disciplines (codes 41 and 42).

Screening for the Engineering disciplines (codes 21-29) is based on two alternative methods :

(a) Cut-off GATE Score for short-listing candidates for interview will be declared on the web.

(b) Written Test: It is conducted in each of the seven Engineering disciplines (codes 21-27). Travel Allowance is not paid for appearing in it. The details of the written test, scheduled in May, 2009, will be announced later.

Screening for the Science disciplines (codes 41-43) is based on two alternative methods :

(a) Written Test: It is conducted in each of the three Science disciplines (codes 41-43) at the centers listed in Table-5 along with their codes. Travel Allowance is not paid for appearing in the written test. Written test is scheduled onSunday, February 22, 2009.

(b) GATE Score: In this case, merit list in each of the Science disciplines (codes 41-43) is prepared on the basis of valid GATE Score of the applicants.

Cut-off GATE score and Written test marks for short-listing candidates for interview in each discipline are decided after the last date of receipt of applications.A candidate applying for Science disciplines (codes 41-43) can (i) opt to appear for the written test, or (ii) apply on the basis of valid GATE Score, or (iii) may opt to appear for written test and also apply for selection on the basis of valid GATE Score .

Selection Interviews of short-listed candidates are conducted in BARC Training School, Anushaktinagar, Mumbai-400 094. Outstation applicants are paid to and fro second-class sleeper train fare by shortest route or actual fare whichever is less. Probable period of selection interviews is during June-July, 2009. List of short-listed candidates and Interview schedule will be declared on our website from May 20, 2009 onwards. Interview call letters will also be posted to those short-listed for interview.

Final Selection is solely on the basis of performance in interview subject to medical fitness .

Eligibility Criteria

Valid GATE score means score of GATE-2008/ GATE-2009

How to Apply

There are two modes of application: (1) Online, and (2) By Post.

Application Fee: A non-refundable application-processing fee of Rs. 100/- (Rs. one hundred) for an online application and Rs.200/- (Rs. two hundred) for a postal application is chargeable from the applicants in General and OBC categories . SC/ST applicants and Dependents of Defence Personnel Killed in Action (DODPKIA) are exempted from payment of application fee. The application fee is to be paid by crossed Demand Draft (DD) drawn in favour of Accounts Officer, BARC, and payable at Mumbai. The applicant should write his/he r name and address at the back of the DD and retain the bank receipt and photocopy of the DD. Do not staple DD .

(1) Online Application: Keep the DD in hand for the amount of the Application Fee. Log on to the website www.hrdbarc.gov.in, and follow the instruction there for filling and submitting the Net-form .

(2) Application by Post can be made by taking two photocopies on an A4 size (~8.3"x11.7") paper of the accompanying format as Application Form. No separate application form is issued. Fill in all the relevant information, paste photographs on both the copies and mail both copies along with one set of enclosures and DD towards the application fee to the address given in the application form. One copy shall be returned to the applicant indicating the application number. That copy should be brought along at the time of appearing for Written Test and/ or Interview .

Some Guidelines for filling Application Form

(i) Under choice of different schemes in the application form, an OCES scheme is indicated by OCES followed by name of the training school from Table-3. Choices for DGFS are indicated by DGFS followed by name of the unit where MTech project is to be carried out and where the Fellow will be placed on appointment .

(ii) Allocation of scheme will solely be on the basis of selection interview merit and choices given by the applicant subject to available vacancies.

(iii) Choices given for those schemes, which are not applicable as per Table-3, will be ignored.

(iv) Choices for DGFS will be cancelled (retaining the options mentioned for OCES) if information about MTech admission, with specialization mentioned, is not submitted by July 10, 2009.

(v) Option of RSE is available only to those Physics and Chemistry discipline applicants who fulfill all eligibility criteria for RSE.

PhD at Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden; Last Date:18th Dec 2008

PhD student position in Applications of space techniques for earth observations -2009, Sweden

Application deadline 2008-12-18

Our research is driven by the curiosity to learn more about the universe and our earth. Through studies of the history of the universe and by studying what is happening on the earth today we search for a greater understanding of the origin of the universe, the earth, and the life. In order to reach our goals we develop very sensitive instrumentation and methods for retrieval of information from measurements.
Job description

We search for a doctoral student to study applications of space techniques to global and regional earth observations. The focus will be in particular on geodetic space techniques such as Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI), Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) (e.g. GPS, GLONASS, and the future European system Galileo), and Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR).

The measurements performed with these techniques result in parameters such as crustal motions, earth rotation parameters, and the atmospheric water vapour content. These parameters describe the global change on our dynamic planet on various temporal and spatial scales and are of major importance in geophysical and climate research. The techniques have different technique-specific advantages and strengths for global earth observations and are complementing each other in terms of the sensed parameter space, accuracy and resolution. To make use of these techniques in a best possible way with a holistic approach, the individual accuracy and stability needs to be investigated (and possibly improved), and strategies for a combination and integration have to be developed.

One focus of the project is the combination and integration of GNSS and InSAR data and analysis to study crustal deformation phenomena. Other subject areas are GNSS applications to monitor sea level changes and seismic events.
Qualifications

A suitable background is a Master of Science (Swedish: civilingenjör) in physics, electrical engineering, or an equivalent degree, including an experience and/or a strong interest in measurements and data analysis applied to the atmospheric sciences.

You will be employed as a doctoral student by Chalmers and will receive a salary according to current salary agreements. A maximum of 20% of your working time will be devoted to duties at the department, mainly teaching of undergraduate courses. The remaining time will be devoted to your own research education, where the aim is to complete your PhD examination within 5 years (nominal time without department duties is 4 years).
Application procedure

The application shall be written in English and include the following items:

1. An application of a maximum of one A4 page containing your specific qualifications for the position
2. Attested copies of education certificates, including grade reports and other documents
3. Curriculum Vitae
4. Letters of recommendation and name of reference persons (optional)

The application shall be sent electronically as pdf or zipped documents. Please use the button at the foot of the page to reach the application form.

If any material is not available electronically or cannot be transferred to pdf format, the material can be sent as a hard copy to Registrar. The applicants name and the reference number (2008/259) must be written on the first page of the application.
