Admission to PhD (Electrical Engineering)

Introduction:

Indian Institute of Technology Patna, has been conceived to bolster high quality technical education and research in the region and to cater to the nation’s need for well groomed technocrats and scientists. Formally registered as a society on 25th July 2008, IIT Patna’s academic programs commenced from 6th August 2008. In order to ensure the quality synonymous with the name IIT and to expedite its growth, IIT Patna has been placed under the mentorship of IIT Guwahati. Patna is the capital of the state of Bihar. This region has been the centre of education since ancient times. Nalanda was the lighthouse of knowledge in ancient India which had scholars not only from other parts of India but also from China, Korea, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and west Asia. Some of the historical legends from this region are Lord Gautam Buddha, Lord Mahavir, Guru Govind Singh, the famous astronomer Aryabhata and the first President of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad. IIT Patna is currently offering B.Tech programs in three disciplines - Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. The sanctioned strength of batch-2008 is 120. The Ph.D. program in Engineering, Science and Humanities & Social Sciences is expected to commence from July 2009. IIT Patna has recruited 30 faculty members in the first round of recruitment conducted in 2008.

Eligibility:

• Master’s degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Medical Sciences/ Veterinary Sciences/ Pharmacy in a relevant area with a minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.5 or 60% of marks.
• Bachelor’s degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Medical Sciences (from other than IITs) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% of marks.

Application form(http://www.iitp.ac.in/iitp-phd/PhD-Form-IITP.doc) can be obtained from the Assistant Registrar, Indian Institute of Technology Patna, Patliputra Colony, Patna – 800 013, Bihar, on or before 08-04-2009 by ordinary post or in person. To receive application forms by ordinary post, send a request along with a self-addressed, Rs.5/- stamped envelope (24cm x 15cm size). Request for form must be sent in an envelope super-scribed with ‘Request for PhD Application form’.

How to apply:

Filled in application forms complete with copies of mark sheets/certificates and other testimonials and a Demand Draft for Rs.150/- for General/ OBC candidates and Rs.75/- for SC/ST/PD candidates drawn in any nationalized bank and payable at Patna in favour of IIT Patna should be sent to the address listed above.
