Research Programmes : Admission Requirements
Qualification
- A good relevant Bachelor's Degree and/or Master's Degree.
- NUS graduates should have at least a 2nd Upper Honors.
- The ability to pursue research in the candidate's proposed field of advanced study.
GRE / GATE scores
- All applicants must submit either GRE or GATE test scores.
- The minimum requirement for GATE score is 1800 or 90 percentile.
- The minimum requirement for GRE score is:
Verbal Ability : 500, Quantitative Ability : 700, Analytical Writing : 3.5
- Applicants with NUS or NTU Honors degree are not required to submit GRE/GATE test scores.
TOEFL / IELTS scores
- Applicants whose native tongue or medium of undergraduate instruction is not English should submit TOEFL/IELTS scores as evidence of their proficiency in the English Language.
- The minimum requirement for TOEFL score is:
Paper-Based Test : 580, Computer-Based Test : 260, Internet-Based Test : 85
- The minimum requirement for IELTS score is 6.
- Applicants are also encouraged to take the Test of Spoken English (TSE) and Test of Written English (TWE).
Research Programmes : Scholarships and Research Grants
NUS Research Scholarship
The University offers financial assistance to full-time graduate research students through its Research Scholarships. They are awarded to outstanding candidates to pursue a full-time graduate research degree at NUS. A limited number of scholarships is available each academic year. They are therefore awarded on a very competitive basis.
Applicants should be university graduates with at least second class honours (upper division) degree or equivalent and at the time of the award of the Research Scholarship, must have applied for and been assured of admission as a candidate for a higher degree research programme at this University. There is no restriction on the nationality of applicants.

President Graduate Fellowship (PGF)
The President Graduate Fellowship (PGF) is awarded to candidates who show exceptional promise or accomplishment in research. A number of Ph.D. research students are selected each semester by the University for the award.
The PGF is open to full-time candidates of all nationalities. Incoming Ph.D. students and current NUS Research Scholars who have passed the Ph.D. Qualifying Examination (QE) are eligible to be considered for the award.

NUS has an array of financial assistance and scholarships/awards available to help graduate students finance their studies in the University. Graduate students can apply for the various financial assistance and scholarships to help them finance their studies in NUS.
